Let’s go fly a kite!

kids-flying-kite-lifestyleIn honor of National Kite Flying Day we want to encourage you to get outside and be active with your family. Flying a kite is just one of many great things you can do with your kids. You can create your own kite or purchase a pre-made kite. Whichever your preference, this is an easy and fun activity that the whole family will enjoy. The only things you really need are: a kite, some wind, and smiling faces!

This article The Benefits of Flying a Kite from Kite’s Club helped us a create a list of why you should get out there an go fly a kite. Dr Devinder Pal Singh Sehgal has a lot of other theories about the benefits of Kite flying that go way beyond plain clean fun, he thinks we should all fly a kite at least once a week.

  1. ENERGY: Kite flyer’s will tell you that flying kites will regenerate energy and has a way of reducing stress and tension of everyday life.
  2. CREATIVE THINKING: Kite flying develops creative thinking, both in the making of the kite as well as flying and adapting it.
  3. CONCENTRATION: Another less known benefit of kite flying is the development of concentration.
  4. ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY: Kite flying is one of the only recreational activities that is both low budget as well as safe and environmentally friendly.

At Pine Crest Day Camp we have a plethora of outdoor activities that encourage our campers to get outside and be active. If the wind is right, campers even get the opportunity to fly kites! kite-smiling.png
